Warts are benign tumors that can be caused by any one of 30 different viruses. As you might expect for such a common condition, there are nearly as many remedies as viruses. The Native Americans were surprisingly successful in treating warts, and the remedies they used work just as well today.
Willow or birch bark. Take a piece of bark, wet it, and tape it to the wart, with the inner side of the bark facing the skin. If you apply a new piece of bark each day, you should see results in about a week. An alternative is to apply a strong wash made by boiling the bark, says herbal expert James A. Duke, Ph.D.
Dandelion or milkweed sap. Break a leaf or stem and squeeze the milky liquid onto a wart. Repeat this several times a day until the wart is gone.
Some people are sensitive to wart treatments, and you’ll need to discontinue the treatments if your skin gets sore or irritated, says Dr. Duke.
