Using deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) is safe and effective in healing ulcers, according to a study in the British Journal of Clinical Practice in 1972. Consult first with a health practitioner if you have high blood pressure or edema.
Marshmallow root
Rich in mucilage, which reduces inflammation in the digestive tract
Plantain
Rich in mucilage, which soothes inflamed and irritated tissues.
Psyllium
Soothing stool softener, provides mucilaginous intestinal bulk—Drink 1 teaspoon (5 g) in a glass of water or juice three times daily.
Slippery elm
Rich in mucilage and calming minerals that soothe irritated mucus membranes.
